Before selecting a pyrometer, determine the expected temperature range – this information can be usually be obtained from the vehicle manufacturer or engine builder. Caution: Use only a thermocouple-specific extension wire to connect the probe to the gauge. Do not alter the length of the thermocouple extension wire. Using any other wire or altering the length of the extension wire can cause severely inaccurate temperature readings.
