COLE HERSEE part description
Cole Hersee intermittent and continous solenoids provide safe, dependable control of electrical systems on all type of DC low voltage vehicles. In addition, they are ideal for marine applications and for forward and reverse systems in golf carts, garden tractors, fork lift trucks and winch operation.
Solenoids are relays which are commonly used to remotely switch a heavier current. By using a solenoid, the amount of heavy wiring needed to power the load is reduced, since the control circuit mounted inside the cab typically utilizes a smaller wire gauge.
Housing are available in plated steel, phenolic or plasticized steel. A latching solenoid can act as a remote disconnect switch.
All products listed in this section can be found in Section H of the Cole Hersee D-275 CATALOG.
- General purpose relays fitClass of Fit is a measure of the degree of fit between mating internal and external screw threads. Three main Classes of Fit are defined for metric screw threads : FINE: A tolerance class of 5H for internal threads and 4h for external threads. MEDIUM: A tolerance class of 6H for internal threads and 6g for external threads. COARSE: A tolerance class of 7H for internal threads and 8g for external threads. For Unified threads, a similar designation as for metric threads is used. The thread classes used are 1A, 2A and 3A for external threads and 1B, 2B and 3B for internal threads. many vehicles. Typical applications include: lighting, starting, horn, heating and cooling. Standard ISO terminal footprint
- Specifications: Pull-in voltageElectrical pressure, the force that causes current to flow through a conductor. Voltage must be expressed as a difference of potential between two points since it is a relational term. Connecting both voltmeter leads to the same point will show no voltage present although the voltage between that point and ground may be thousands of volts.
- Calculations often involve Ohm's Law, q.v.: 7.8V maximum at 12V DC, 15.6V at 24V DC. Release voltage: 1.2V minimum at 12V DC, 2.4V at 24V DC. Temperature range: -40°C to 85°C. Operational life: Electrical to 100,000 cycles; Mechanical to 10 million cycles. Contact Material: Silver alloy. dielectric strengthThe capability of of nonconducting material to withstand a maximum voltage. : 500V rms between coil and contact. Insulation resistance: 100MΩ minimum (500V DC). Vibration resistance: 10-40Hz double amplitude 1.5mm. Ignition protected to SAE J1171, Section 5. Cole Hersee Relays are rated based on a steady state resistive loadThe device that uses the power supplied from an electrical source. It can be a motor, lamp, horn or other device.
- . De-rate according to the type of load: Motor load: inrushInrush is the maximum instantaneous input current drawn by an electrical device when first turned on. For example, incandescent light bulbs have high inrush currents until their filaments warm up and their resistance increases. Devices are designed to cope with inrush current, and knowledgeable electricians will make sure a circuit can safely handle such a surge, and match it with appropriate circuit protection. can be 5 to 10 x steady state current. solenoidAn electromechanical device (or relay) that is used to switch large currents. It consists of a coil of wire and a moving contact that makes an electrical connection when the coil of wire is energized. Cole Hersee manufactures over 50 kinds of solenoid. See # 24059 load: Inrush can be 10 to 20 x steady state current. Incandescent lamp load: Inrush can be 10 to 15 x steady state current.
